One IVF cycle costs a median $12,660 at US fertility clinics that publish a price, before medications, and state medians run from $7,250 in Arizona to $15,770 in Minnesota among states with three or more priced clinics. In October 2026, our research team collected the IVF cycle prices that US fertility clinics publish on their own websites, opening each clinic's price page state by state. We recorded 85 clinic entries with a published price across 40 states and Washington, DC, along with the frozen embryo transfer, medication, and egg freezing prices printed on the same pages, and checked 43 more clinic entries that publish no price.
US clinics that report to SART performed 449,772 IVF treatment cycles in 2024, and whether insurance pays depends on the state and the plan. RESOLVE counts 15 states with laws that require insurers to cover IVF, and notes that self-insured employer plans are exempt in nearly every state. For everyone else, the price a clinic charges is the price.
Few clinics publish a full price list, and the ones that do describe different bundles of services under the same word, cycle. Our study gathered the published prices and recorded what each one covers, so the figures can be compared on the same terms.
In the sections below, we break down IVF prices by state, by region, by price band, by price type, by how prices are worded, by state insurance law, by the costs outside the base price, by frozen embryo transfer price, by the estimated cost of a first attempt, and by how many clinics publish a price.
Summary of Findings
- The median published price for one IVF cycle is $12,660 across 83 standard clinic prices in 40 states and DC, before medications.
- Half of published base prices fall between $10,000 and $14,300, and 32.5% fall between $14,000 and $15,999.
- Clinics in the West publish the lowest regional median, $10,159, and clinics in the Northeast the highest, $14,300.
- None of the 83 base prices say medications are included, and clinics that estimate medications put them at a median $3,500 a cycle.
- 66.4% of the clinic entries we checked publish an IVF price online.
IVF Cost by State
In the table below, we list the median published base price in each of the 40 states and DC with a priced clinic, with the lowest and highest price in each. In a state with one priced clinic, that clinic's price stands alone.

Our researchers drew three conclusions from the state data:
- We found that among states with at least three priced clinics, Minnesota has the highest median, $15,770, and Arizona the lowest, $7,250.
- Our data showed that prices vary more within some states than between them: Virginia runs from $4,999 to $20,900 and California from $4,995 to $18,000.
- We found that North Dakota's $21,000 is the highest single figure, from a health system news article quoting a financial representative, not a posted price list.
IVF Cost by Region
In the table below, we group published prices by Census region and add the median frozen embryo transfer and egg freezing prices printed on the same clinic pages.
| Region | States With a Priced Clinic | IVF Prices | Median IVF Price | Lowest | Highest | Median Frozen Transfer | Median Egg Freezing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Northeast | 8 | 15 | $14,300 | $4,525 | $17,600 | $4,475 | $8,825 |

Our team took three findings from the regional data:
- We found that the Northeast's median IVF price is $4,141 higher than the West's.
- Our data showed that the West is lowest on every measure in the table, including frozen transfers at $4,000 and egg freezing at $6,500.
- We found that several of the lowest Western prices are entry packages that leave out the embryo transfer, so part of the regional gap reflects what the price covers.
How Widely IVF Prices Vary
In the table below, we sort all 83 base prices into bands of $2,000, with the share of prices in each band and the running total.

Our researchers drew three conclusions from the price band data:
- We found that the most common band is $14,000 to $15,999, with 27 of the 83 prices.
- Our data showed that 89.2% of published prices fall below $16,000.
- We found that 10 prices, 12.0% of the total, are under $8,000, and most of these are entry packages or prices marked as starting points.
IVF Cost by Price Type
In the table below, we group base prices by what the clinic calls the price: a standard IVF cycle, an IVF package, IVF with ICSI, or a freeze-all package that freezes every embryo for a later transfer.
| Price Type | Clinic Prices | Median Price | Lowest | Highest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IVF cycle | 54 | $12,660 | $4,000 | $21,000 |
| IVF package | 15 | $12,500 | $4,999 | $18,000 |
| IVF with ICSI | 9 | $14,300 | $10,000 | $15,770 |
| IVF freeze-all | 5 | $11,995 | $9,500 | $14,580 |

- IVF cycle$12,660
- IVF package$12,500
- IVF freeze-all$11,995

Our team took three findings from the price type data:
- We found that prices that include ICSI have the highest median, $14,300, and the narrowest range, starting at $10,000.
- Our data showed that freeze-all packages have the lowest median, $11,995, because the transfer is billed later as a separate frozen embryo transfer.
- We found that 54 of the 83 base prices are listed simply as an IVF cycle, the label that covers the widest range of services.
How Clinics Word Their IVF Prices
In the table below, we classify each base price by how the clinic prints it: a single price, a range, a floor such as starting at or as low as, or an estimate such as approximately or about.
| Price Wording | Clinic Prices | Share of Prices | Median Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single price | 34 | 41.0% | $11,248 |
| Range, recorded at the low end | 23 | 27.7% | $13,000 |
| Floor, such as starting at | 19 | 22.9% | $12,500 |
| Estimate, such as approximately | 7 | 8.4% | $15,000 |
| Total | 83 | 100% | $12,660 |

- Range27.7%
- Floor, such as starting at22.9%
- Estimate, such as approximately8.4%
Source: Fertility Supplement Index analysis of published IVF prices from 85 US clinic entries, October 2026
Our researchers drew three conclusions from the wording data:
- We found that fewer than half of published base prices, 41.0%, are a single fixed figure.
- Our data showed that ranges and floors together make up 50.6% of prices, so the figure a patient sees is often the least a cycle will cost.
- We found that estimates have the highest median, $15,000, because clinics that estimate tend to describe a fuller cycle than clinics that post an entry price.
IVF Cost in States With and Without IVF Insurance Laws
In the table below, we compare published self-pay prices in states with a law requiring insurers to cover IVF and in states without one, coded from RESOLVE's state-by-state summary.
| States | States With a Priced Clinic | IVF Prices | Median IVF Price | Lowest | Highest | Median Frozen Transfer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| With an IVF coverage law, 14 states and DC | 14 | 26 | $13,950 | $4,000 | $18,000 | $4,000 |
| Without an IVF coverage law | 27 | 57 | $12,600 | $4,525 | $21,000 | $4,500 |

- Without one$12,600
Source: Fertility Supplement Index analysis of published IVF prices from 85 US clinic entries, October 2026; RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, Insurance Coverage by State
Our team took three findings from the insurance law data:
- We found that clinics in states with an IVF coverage law publish a median price $1,350 higher than clinics elsewhere.
- Our data showed that frozen embryo transfers run lower in states with a law, a median $4,000 against $4,500.
- We found that the laws apply to fully insured plans and self-insured employer plans are exempt in nearly every state, so a state law does not guarantee coverage, and published prices remain self-pay figures.
Costs Outside the Base IVF Price
In the table below, we pull the other prices printed on the same clinic pages, with the median, the middle half, and the full range for each.

Our researchers drew three conclusions from the add-on data:
- We found that none of the 83 base prices say medications are included: 61 exclude them and 22 do not say.
- Our data showed that a frozen embryo transfer adds a median $4,360, and half of the 42 published transfer prices fall between $3,815 and $5,000.
- We found that an egg freezing cycle, listed on 32 of the same pages, costs a median $7,950, and egg storage adds a median $750 a year where a page prints it.
Frozen Embryo Transfer Cost by Region
In the table below, we group the 42 frozen embryo transfer prices printed on the same clinic pages by Census region and compare each with the IVF base price those clinics publish.

Our team took three findings from the frozen transfer data:
- We found that a frozen embryo transfer costs a median $4,360, about a third of the same clinic's IVF price, at a median 34.7%.
- Our data showed that 61.9% of published transfer prices fall between $3,000 and $4,999, and only two are $6,000 or more.
- We found that none of the 42 transfer prices say medications are included: 29 exclude them and 13 do not say.
Estimated Cost of a First IVF Attempt
In the table below, we add up the published prices for a first IVF attempt with one frozen embryo transfer, using the lower quartile, the median, and the upper quartile of each item.
| Item | Lower Quartile | Median | Upper Quartile |
|---|---|---|---|
| IVF base cycle | $10,000 | $12,660 | $14,300 |
| IVF medications, low end of clinic estimates | $3,000 | $3,500 | $4,000 |

Our researchers drew three conclusions from the cost estimate:
- We found that a first IVF attempt with one frozen transfer comes to about $20,520 at the median of each published price, and $16,815 to $23,300 between the lower and upper quartiles.
- Our data showed that the base cycle makes up 61.7% of that median total, so the advertised price leaves out close to two-fifths of the cost.
- We found that using the high end of clinic medication estimates, a median $6,500, raises the median total to $23,520.
How Many Fertility Clinics Publish IVF Prices
In the table below, we compare the clinic entries that publish an IVF price with the clinic entries we checked that publish none, by region.
| Region | Clinic Entries Checked | Publish a Price | No Published Price | Share Publishing a Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Northeast | 21 | 15 | 6 | 71.4% |
| Midwest | 32 | 20 | 12 | 62.5% |
| South | 47 | 30 | 17 | 63.8% |

- Northeast71.4%
- West71.4%
- South63.8%
- Midwest62.5%
Source: Fertility Supplement Index analysis of published IVF prices from 85 US clinic entries, October 2026
Our team took three findings from the transparency data:
- We found that about one in three clinic entries we checked publishes no IVF price at all.
- Our data showed that the Midwest has the lowest publishing rate, 62.5%, and the Northeast and West the highest, 71.4%.
- We found that ten states, including Michigan and Alabama, had no clinic with a published IVF price, so a price there comes only by request.
What Published IVF Prices Mean for Patients Comparing Clinics
For a patient paying out of pocket, the published base price is a starting point, not a total. Medications, a frozen transfer, and genetic testing can add thousands, and clinics bundle those items differently, so two prices that look alike can cover different care.
Price transparency is still uneven: a large share of clinics publish no price, and the prices that are posted are often floors or ranges. Where prices are posted, they cluster within a few thousand dollars of each other, with the West lower and the Northeast higher.
So if you are comparing IVF clinics, ask each one for the price of a full cycle with medications and one frozen transfer, so the totals line up.

Methodology
We searched clinic and network websites state by state and opened every price page on October 29, 2026, recording only prices printed on the page. Aggregator sites helped us find clinic pages, but none of their figures are used. We did not request quotes or use forms.
One base-cycle price per clinic entry: a standard IVF cycle, IVF package, IVF with ICSI, or freeze-all package. Multi-cycle, refund, and shared-risk packages were left out. Two limited-time promotions, a $6,000 fall special at one network in Illinois and Indiana and one clinic's promotional egg freezing price, were left out of the medians. Networks that publish one price across locations count once per state, and each state was capped at four clinics.
Where a page printed a range, the base figure is the low end. The median of range midpoints is $14,300, and counting each price page once gives $12,830. We classified price wording ourselves: a range when a high figure is printed, a floor when the page says starting at, as low as, from, or uses a plus sign, and an estimate when it says approximately, about, around, average, or similar. Prices are not like-for-like: some leave out the embryo transfer, and some include one frozen transfer or genetic testing.
Regions follow the US Census Bureau's four regions. State IVF laws were coded from RESOLVE's state pages: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Washington, DC. Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island require infertility coverage without naming IVF; California, Colorado, and New York apply to large group plans. Utah's narrower law was coded no. Arkansas has no priced clinic in our data.
Clinic entries checked with no published price total 43, with one clinic listed in two states, and the count of clinic entries that publish a price includes the two promotional prices. The first-attempt estimate adds each item's lower quartile, median, and upper quartile separately, so each total is a sum of item figures and leaves out testing and anesthesia billed separately. The Sources list includes every clinic price page we used. We calculated products, differences, and ratios from the published values.
